Who Are Ya? is a browser-based football game hosted on the website Missing11.com that acts as a Wordle for football fans. Who Are Ya? is like Wordle, but players have eight tries to guess a footballer.

How to play

As in the original, there are a set number of attempts (eight in this case) in Who Are Ya?, with each of them revealing something about what your guess and the target player have in common. You are presented with a blurred image of a player when you begin the game. All of them will play in one of the five major leagues in Europe, namely the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1 or Bundesliga. The game will tell you whether your guess is correct about the player's nationality, league, club, position, or age.

For instance, if you picked Jorginho and the circles for his league and position were lit up green, but the rest were grey, you'd know that you were looking for a Premier League midfielder who is not Italian, does not play for Chelsea, and doesn't turn 30 anytime soon.

If you guess a player's name, it will only be correct if:

  • When you start typing a player's name in Who Are Ya? game, their name shows up in the search list. You can't type a name that isn't on the list for the game.
  • A footballer plays in any of Europe's top five leagues: the Premier League, Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A, or Ligue 1.
  • The player has played at least once for a team in any of the leagues listed above.
  • If a player is signed up for a club but hasn't played any of that club's games in the league, they won't show up in the game's search tool. This means that footballers who have played for a club but only in games outside of the league won't be able to show up here.

Having more green tiles would make it easier for you to correctly estimate and in fewer attempts. If you guess the right player after 8 tries, all five tiles under that player's name will be green. After each guess, the picture of the player will become a little less blurry. But you can't trust the colors because they have been changed. It's not as easy as you might think, but if you like soccer, you should give it a try. Have fun!
