Cladder is a new twist on the well-known word game Wordle, that adds a new element of strategy. Unlike most alternatives, players in this game must guess 10 words based on clues within one minute. Start with a four-letter seed word and modify one letter to get the answer.
Cladder allows you 60 seconds to solve all ten clues, but be warned—it's easy to get stuck on a clue, especially when under time pressure. To make a new word, you need to change one letter from the previous one. You will be given two "skip" options with every game you play, which will provide you with the correct answer in exchange for 5 seconds of your time.
Take CASH as an example. The clue states, "run swiftly." You will need to substitute a D in front of the first letter of your answer to produce the word DASH. The next clue will tell you to change one letter in the word DASH. To get the word DISH, for example, replace the A in the clue "a plate of food" with an I. And so on, until all 10 clues have been completed.
When you play Cladder on a touchscreen, you just touch the square that needs to be changed and type the letter you want. On another device, such as a laptop, you must enter the entire word. In Cladder, there is only one new entry every day, just like Wordle. If that's not enough for you, though, there's good news: you can play all of the old Cladder puzzles in the Cladder archive.
In addition to the dark and light modes, you can play in three different modes:
In Hard Mode, you can't skip, and the game doesn't tell you which tile to change if you get stuck. If you choose to play in Hard Mode, an asterisk will show up next to your score to let other Cladder players know you're up for the challenge.
In pick mode, simply tap a tile to change its letter instead of typing out the whole word—this might be a better way to play the game, especially on mobile devices.
Teacher Mode: This mode is designed to encourage collaborative play in the classroom. There is no timer in this mode.
You can also choose "practice mode" to get used to how the game works without hurting your stats.
