Tradle is a daily game in which you are given a list of a country's 12 most important exports by percentage. With this information, players get six chances to figure out which country is shown in the export chart. When a country exports a lot of cars, for example, this can be a big clue. In other situations, it's not as clear: even the most experienced trade economist might not know what "Reaction and Catalytic Products," which make up 19.3% of all exports, are. It is based on the popular word puzzle game "Wordle," but it is not the same game. It's an interesting piece of work that will help people learn and also help people learn. Trader is a very interesting game that can lead to learning as well as be used for learning.

How to play

The treemap helps the players guess the names of the countries. And just like Wordle, your guess gives you a clue. If you guess the wrong country in Tradle, the game tells you how far away and in which direction that country is from the right answer. Players have 6 guesses to pick the right country, just like in Wordle and the many other games that are based on it.

What country exports nearly $4 billion worth of refined oil, $3 billion worth of cars, and a surprising amount of paper and cardboard? Finland, obviously.

OEC (Observatory of Economic Complexity) is a data visualization platform based on bills of lading used in marine transportation. Tradle runs on the OEC domain. Tradle's developer is Simoes, the CTO and co-founder of Datawheel, which is the team of designers and developers behind OEC. Simoes has additional data-visualization initiatives, too. Tradle connects trade statistics and fun so that data has more meaning.

The game is both fun and educational. You will learn about what each country exports. So if you haven't played the game yet, you should go play it now.
