Daily word puzzles can be a great way to keep your mind active. Many of the most popular puzzles in print have been moved to online format by The New York Times over recent years. The NYT Spelling Bee is one of the most beloved of these games.

Sam Ezersky, a professional puzzle creator, created this daily letter challenge. It is similar to word games like Boggle or Scrabble. A set of letters is given to each participant and they are given the task of creating as many words as possible. The letter set will be displayed in a hexagon. You must use the central letter for every word. The NY Times games will save your progress and allow you to access it anytime you want.

How to Play

Use letters from the beehive to create words
Words should contain at least four letters
The center letter must be included in words
Words can be improper nouns or hyphenated.
You can use letters more than once.

To increase your rating, score points

Each 4-letter word is worth 1 point
One point is awarded for each letter that contains longer words.
Every puzzle contains at least one "pangram", which uses every letter.
The highest points are reserved for words that use all seven letters.

How do you win the spelling bee?

Use your finger to spell words on your palm.
When spelling the word, take your time. It's impossible to make any changes after you say the word out loud.
Practice spelling bees by writing the words with your finger. This will help you get the hang of the process.

The New York Times offers some strategies and tips for spelling bees, just like Wordle. Interestingly, the game developers created Spelling Bee as a substitute for those who do not enjoy other New York Times games such as Sudoku, Tiles, Vertex, Letterbox, Word Connect, Word Crush, 2048 Classic, Hard Crossword, and Text Twist 2.
